7 All-Natural Tips to Make Your Hair Grow Longer Faster

Do you ever wish your hair would grow faster? Or just grow at all?

I’ve definitely been there + it can be so frustrating! I’ve had my fair share of hair lengths over the years, from an unintentional lob due to unhealthy breakage to long, lustrous locks that go on for days.

From growing out a short blonde bob to adding some length to my forever medium length hair (anyone else?), these are my all-natural, tried & true, actually work, no shortcut ways I use to make my hair grow longer faster.

TIP: It’s important to note that hair grows an average of 6 inches per year, and usually grows faster during the summer months.  Use these tips to keep your hair healthy + growing all year long!

7 All-Natural Tips to Make Your Hair Grow Longer Faster

#1 Drink Lots of Water + Eat Healthy

All the tips + tricks in the world won’t help your hair grow if your internal health is off. Your hair is a direct reflection of your internal health. So first things first, take care of your body and fuel it will lots of water + nutrient dense foods! I promise this will make a HUGE difference in the health of your hair, including more shine and less breakage.

NOTE: I’ve found that certain health conditions can be especially hard on your hair and make it nearly impossible to grow out. I struggled with unhealthy hair that just wouldn’t grow for so long until I healed my endometriosis, PCOS, and severe PMS from treatment at the Pope Paul VI Institute in Omaha, NE. It might sound crazy, but fixing my hormone issues played a huge part in the health of my hair, not to mention my overall health and well being. It’s a pretty amazing treatment... You can read more about my journey + treatment for endometriosis, PCOS, and PMS it in an interview I did HERE.

#2 Put Coconut Oil On Your Hair Before You Shower

Putting coconut oil on dry hair from mid-shaft to ends (no roots or it’ll get greasy!) before you hop in the shower will keep your shampoo from stripping the natural oils in your ends and prevent breakage and split ends.

#3 Let Your Hair Air Dry As Much As Possible

The heat and force of a blow dryer can be really tough on your hair. Give it a much needed break and minimize damage by air drying it regularly.

TIP: Use a microfiber head turban to absorb more water + cut down on drying time.

#4 Wash Your Hair Once a Week

Limiting the amount of times you wash your hair per week, even with the coconut oil tip above, will keep your looking and feeling so much healthier. It’s all about keeping those natural oils in your hair as long as possible between washes.

#5 Style/Curl/Straighten Your Hair Once a Week

We all know heat tools are tough on hair and can do a number on fragile ends. So avoid doing a complete wash/dry/style routine every day. Instead, aim to fully style your hair once a week with heat tools (curl/straighten/etc) and then just touch up a few pieces here and there each day.

TIP: Dry shampoo, ponytails, braids, hats, and just letting your hairstyle (especially curls) loosen each day will make this tip really easy. Get creative + try some new no-heat hairstyles like 2 Ways to Tie a Bandana Scarf in Your Hair or 3 Ways to Style Your Hair With a Baseball Hat!

#6 Sleep with Your Hair Down

Wearing your hair up in a ponytail or topknot puts extra stress on your hair and can cause lots of breakage. This is especially true at night when you’re tossing and turning while you sleep. Let your hair rest while you sleep and either keep it down or in a very loose low ponytail.

#7 Use a Deep Conditioner

This one is pretty self explanatory. It moisturizes and replenishes your hair. Think of it like lotion for your hair, except in this case you don’t want to use it daily. Once a month or every other week is plenty, otherwise it can weigh your hair down and make it harder to style.

Well, there you have it! My all-natural, tried & true, actually work, no shortcut ways I use to get my hair to grow faster. I hope you find a few (or all!) of these tips to work for you + help grow your hair longer, stronger, and healthier, too!
