They say you change a baby’s diaper an average of 7 times per day for the first year.... I can remember some days at least double that when my little guy was a newborn! That’s a lot of diaper changing!

When you do something that often, you quickly find that some things work (& others don’t). Here are my tried + true 7 diaper changing essentials that I recommend to any new mommy and daddy out there!

#1 BabyBum Diaper Cream Brush

The most amazing invention! We affectionately call it the "butt spatula" in our house. I know it sounds ridiculous (and hilarious!), but it was a total game changer! No more greasy fingers or picking diaper cream out from under my finger nails... oh and it smooths on the diaper cream in a nice even layer, like I never could before.

#2 Honest Diaper Rash Cream

This extra step saved my baby’s sore bum from the terrible diaper rash he got as a newborn. I love the Honest Co. brand & we still use it on our little guy (even at 10 months old) every.single.time to prevent diaper rash. Works like a charm!

#3 Portable Changing Pad

We keep one on our main level, one in the diaper bag, and one at grandma and grandpa’s house. I love this inexpensive one because it’s only $6 🙌🏻 & has a good amount of padding to it.

#4 Cute Diapers

I started using the Honest Co. brand diapers because I love their mission of non-toxic products & ingredient transparency, but I now love the adorable diaper patterns just as much! It is weird to say I actually look forward to a diaper change because it so much fun to pick out the cute little pattern he gets to wear. It has made diaper changing time lots more fun than my husband and I ever expected! My husband’s fav is definitely the skulls pattern & my newest fav is the sweet little trucks pattern for spring.

#5 Wipes that Work

The Honest Co. does it again! We originally tried their wipes as part of their diaper bundle delivery service and had great luck with them. Then we ran out before our next delivery & tried Water Wipes for a few days and ouch! those did not work well for us. They're much smaller than the Honest wipes and just didn’t get all the gunk off, so they ended up leaving my babies bum all red and swollen. Now we order extra wipes with our bundle or snag some at Target!

#6 Honest Hand Sanitizer Gel

I’ve always hated hand sanitizer. It’s sticky and smelly and dries your hands out. Plus, I never felt like my hands got clean enough. But the Honest hand sanitizer gel somehow broke the mold. I love the fresh smell, the way it glides on smooth, and for some reason it doesn’t dry my hands out as much as the spray stuff. So I always have this on hand for diaper duty in case I can’t wash my hands right away.

#7 Ubbi Diaper Pail

This diaper pail is the bomb (no pun intended). I love its sleek, modern design & the fact that you can use regular trash bags.  There’s absolutely no smell when it’s closed & I can easily slide the door open and drop the diaper in one handed. Definitely worth the splurge! (you can sometimes find certain colors on sale on Amazon, too!)
