3 Ways to Tie a Silk Scarf in Your Hair

If you’ve seen the windswept ponytails & effortless updos all over Instagram & Pinterest adorned with that perfectly polished silk scarf that adds just a touch of feminine edge & whimsy to any outfit… BUT you’ve ever wondered how the heck do I get this look without feeling like a 3-year-old little girl with a bow tied in my hair?! Then today’s blog post is just for YOU!

A silk scarf tied in your hair may look effortless & easy when it’s done correctly, but sometimes getting this look right the first time can be a little bit tricky! So today I’m breaking it down & sharing 3 ways to get in on this effortlessly chic trend… complete with my fail-proof tips for keeping this look feeling elegant and polished (rather than childish & messy)! Because the trick to getting this hairstyle to look effortless is as easy as choosing the right type of hairstyle with the right length scarf!

From dressing up your next Friday night date-night outfit to adding some flare to your Sunday morning church ensemble, use these hairstyles as inspiration for your next effortless outfit!

3 Ways to Tie a Silk Scarf in Your Hair

#1 Short Scarf with a Low Ponytail

A low ponytail + short scarf pair perfectly together & are a great way to just dip your toe into this fun hair scarf trend! A low ponytail is a simple, easy hairstyle & adding a short scarf keeps the look minimal & chic, while also avoiding the possibility of a longer scarf getting caught on your sweater or top as you move around since this hairstyle lays directly against your body.

STYLE TIP: Use a hair scarf that comes already attached to a hair tie, which makes it even easier to tie around your ponytail!

#2 Long Scarf with a High Ponytail

A high ponytail + long scarf combo is my all-time fav way to wear this trend! The longer length scarf hanging down makes this look extra fun & brings a lot of added personality to your outfit! Wrap the scarf around your ponytail 1-2x before knotting it off on the top side.

STYLE TIP: Knotting the scarf off on the top side of your pony will allow scarf will lay on either side of your ponytail making it more visible as your hair moves around throughout the day (rather than tying off on the bottom side & the scarf getting lost underneath your hair.)

#3 Medium Length Scarf with Side Bun / Ponytail

A messy bun + medium length scarf is yet another way to tie a silk scarf in your hair. This style works well for both a side bun or a side swept ponytail, because the medium length scarf balances out the fullness of the hairstyle without risking the scarf getting too tangled up in your outfit.

STYLE TIP: Play around with different lengths of the scarf by simply wrapping the scarf around the base of your bun/ponytail a few times until it looks right. Also, remember to let one side of the scarf hang a little longer than the other to give your hairstyle an effortless vibe.
