5 Dressing Room Dilemmas & How to Avoid Them

We’ve all been there — standing in front of the dressing room mirror trying to decide if we should buy something or not. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending your hard earned cash on new clothes just to get home, wash it & find it neatly hanging in our closet months later having only been worn a few times. Today I’m sharing my tried & true tips for building a mix & match mom style wardrobe with my top 5 dressing room dilemmas & how to avoid them. (Aka, how to get a closet full of clothes you love & actually want to wear when you get home without breaking the bank!)

5 Dressing Room Dilemmas & How to Avoid Them

#1 If you’re trying to “make it work”… leave it.

If you’re pulling and tugging on an item & trying really hard to “make it work,” my advice is to leave it. Even if it’s only $5 or on major sale, odds are you won’t wear it or worse you actually will wear it & feel uncomfortable all day long. There’s bound to be another better item just around the corner.

#2 If you’re just not sure because something seems off… leave it.

Getting home and standing in front of your own mirror won’t magically make something feel great. If an item feels just so-so but not great, it’s best to leave it at the store & wait for something better.

STYLE TIP: sometimes you really do need to bring an item home & try it on with different outfits before deciding to keep it. just don’t forget to actually try it on before cutting the tags & washing it!

#3 If you’re afraid it’ll be gone if you don’t get it right now… leave it.

This might sound a little contrary to the idea of building a budget-friendly wardrobe — especially if something is on major sale. But I believe in a “less but better” approach to style & sometimes that means leaving an item on major sale. That way you have room in your budget when the right piece really does come along.

#4 If you’re asking yourself if it’s too short, too tight, or too low… leave it!

If you have to ask the question, then the answer is probably yes! Try sizing up for a longer and looser fit or layering items to create a whole new look.

#5 You love it, but your mom or girlfriends think it’s just ok… get it!

You’re the one wearing it & if you love it and feel good in it, then it shouldn’t matter! After all, we should be dressing for the joy of it & not just to impress other people or get compliments. However, don’t discount their advice either… sometimes mother really does know best.

I hope these style tips make your next shopping trip a lot more fun & help you start to build that effortlessly chic mom style wardrobe on a budget, too!
