Healthy Living Swaps: 3 Ingredient Sugar Free Margarita (Recipe)

Hey, there!

It's hard to believe its almost Labor Day Weekend! Labor Day is this coming weekend for any of those already stuck in a time warp of school schedules + fall activities. I always think of labor day weekend as the unofficial end of summer. It's when we spend one last weekend enjoying the lake before closing it down and bringing the docks out of the water for the season.  Before long the school year, football season, and all sorts of fall activities will be in full swing. But before you dive head first into cozy sweaters + pumpkin spice lattes, let's enjoy one last summertime soirée!

And no summertime soirée is complete without the quintessential drink of summer: margaritas. Traditional margaritas can be loaded with tons of extra sugars and artificial sweeteners that aren't helping your newly inspired health goals for fall. Stay on track and start this new season feeling energized + renewed with this 3 Ingredients Sugar Free Margarita recipe instead!

3-Ingredient Sugar Free Margarita (Paleo Recipe)

1. 1 oz Tequila

When skipping the added sugars, it’s best to opt for high quality tequila to achieve the best flavor since you aren’t covering up cheap tequila with loads of sugar. My husband and I first tried Tres Generaciones tequila on our honeymoon and now it’s a family fav. It has less burn and bite and tastes great in this recipe!

2. 6 oz Spindrift Sparkling Water

While most sugar free margaritas suggest club soda, I love adding a little extra flavor to my drink with a Spindrift sparkling water. Unlike most flavored sparkling waters, Spindrifts are made with real fruit juice and fruit purées (rather than natural flavors), which is not only healthier for you but will make a world of difference in the taste, bbecause real fruit just tastes better! From the conveniently sized cans, to the fact that I can get them at Target, to the ever-expanding variety of flavors (think: lemon, raspberry lime, blackberry, strawberry), its an all-around win in my book!

3. 1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice

A splash of real lemon juice (not that fake lemon shaped squeeze bottle from concentrate) complements the tequila flavor and adds the finishing touch to your sugar-free margarita. Even if you already opted for lemon flavored sparkling water, you’ll still want to add this extra dose of lemony goodness.

*Optional: 1 oz packet of stevia

Okay, okay. I know what you’re thinking: Stevia is still sugar, girl. But if you prefer a little more sweetness, you can definitely mix in a packet of this low-glycemic natural sweetener without sending yourself into a month-long sugar binge.

Serve over crushed ice.... and rest + relax + enjoy!
